As much as I rather not harp over politics, there is a point to be made about the 2024 United States Presidential Election. To my understanding, one of the points of democracy is to give “the people” agency in the operation of their government in its various forms. That is to say that in a nation with a functioning democracy, “the people” aught to be held accountable for how their goverment is running. So when things are running terribly, “the people” aught to blame eachother.
Some would dare to imagine that “the people” who rule or influence rule in a democracy are a homogenous body (i.e., one big group). But there are no flat hierarchies in the universe. Accountability has to begin somewhere, people. Starting from the top is proving futile time and time again. The idea that the common man has an influence in the affairs of his government is only as truthful as the fact that the common man is influenced to accept or deny issues relating to his government. Accountability for the failures of a democratic society begins when the people at the bottom realize that the jig is up. Rule of law in the hands of man is a system compromised by greed, fame, and deceit.
